This project is located in the rapidly developing Middle East, where rising living standards are driving increased demand for high-quality children's entertainment venues. Middle Eastern families highly value their children's development and recreation, demonstrating a strong willingness to invest in enriching play experiences. The designer, POKIDDO, identified this market trend and created an indoor soft playground specifically for children aged 3-15, aiming to provide a safe, fun, and creative play space.
During the initial planning phase, POKIDDO conducted in-depth market research. They found that the intense heat in the Middle East significantly limits outdoor activities, especially in summer, creating a vast market for commercial indoor playground facilities. Furthermore, local parents expect play environments to be not only enjoyable but also conducive to physical development, cognitive skills, and social interaction. Based on these insights, POKIDDO established a design direction centered on fun, education, and, most importantly, safety, aiming to create a unique indoor playground experience.
Within a compact 330 square meter area, POKIDDO meticulously planned the layout to maximize space utilization and functional optimization.
Upon entering, the core Soft Playground area, covering approximately 150 sqm, immediately captures attention. Here, a fiberglass four-lane slide and a spiral slide serve as the visual centerpieces. Their design leverages the venue's 5-meter ceiling height, ensuring the slopes provide thrilling fun while maintaining absolute safety. The slides exit into a vibrant 40 sqm ball pit, where children can play and release their energy in a dreamlike atmosphere.
An obstacle course with soft play elements, spanning about 30 sqm, is arranged around the slides and ball pit. This area includes various shaped climbing structures and tunnels, allowing children to build physical strength and courage as they navigate the challenges. A volcano-themed climbing frame in one corner, with its unique design and difficulty, attracts older children seeking adventure.
Adjacent to the main play area is the 60 sqm sand & toys zone. It uses high-quality, non-toxic ceramic sand with a fine texture, encouraging imaginative play. A variety of sand play equipment like shovels, buckets, and molds are provided. A comfortable parent lounge with seating is situated nearby, allowing guardians to relax while supervising their children.
A charming merry-go-round, positioned in an open part of the venue, serves as a romantic landmark. Its exquisite design and colorful lights attract children eager to experience its fairy-tale magic. A low-level zip line utilizes the length of the space, letting kids experience the thrill of gliding through the air, with safety mats installed below for a secure landing.
The entire layout thoughtfully considers the characteristics of different playground structures and children's activity needs. The 5-meter ceiling height allows for more challenging and engaging designs for slides and climbing frames, creating an open and comfortable feeling. Wide pathways connect all zones, ensuring smooth movement and easy parental supervision.
1. Thrilling Slide Zone
The fiberglass four-lane slide features a sleek, curved design. The slope of each lane is calibrated to deliver exciting speed while staying within safe limits. The slide's surface is specially treated to be smooth yet offer controlled friction, ensuring a consistent and manageable descent. Side rails are designed to be high enough for safety without feeling restrictive.
The spiral slide captivates with its helical form. The rotation angle and speed are precisely calculated to provide a fun, centrifugal thrill while ensuring a safe and stable ride to the bottom. Handholds are softly padded for comfort and secure grip.
2. Ball Pit & Soft Play Obstacle Course
The 40 sqm ball pit is filled with soft, eco-friendly balls in a variety of bright colors. The balls are an ideal size for children to handle. With a depth of 60 cm, kids can safely jump, roll, and play. The surrounding soft play obstacle course features diverse challenges: climbing nets with soft-covered bars, crawl tunnels lined with plush fabric, and various padded shapes. This area helps develop motor skills, spatial awareness, and problem-solving abilities. The entire zone is underpinned by shock-absorbing EVA foam mats, providing a safe base for all activities.
3. Climbing & Adventure Zone
The volcano climber, with its realistic design and textured grips, simulates a true探险. It challenges children's strength and technique, sparking their spirit of adventure and exploration while building physical fitness and courage.
4. Sand Play & Merry-Go-Round
The sand play zone uses premium, hygienic ceramic sand. Equipped with a wide array of toys, it fosters creativity and fine motor skills. The classic merry-go-round, with its pastel colors and gentle rotation, provides a delightful and safe ride for younger children, accompanied by cheerful music.
5. Low-Level Zip Line
The 10-meter zip line offers the excitement of flying through the air in a secure, low-altitude setting. Safety buffers and soft landing mats at both ends ensure a smooth stop. The ergonomic seat is comfortable, allowing children to enjoy the exhilarating ride, which also helps build confidence and bravery.
