An old factory building, 4,000㎡, with 8–9 meter ceilings — but the space is filled with dense columns and crisscrossing beams. This is the Pokiddo Sports Dream Factory located inside Yuechen Chenxing Sports Park in Beichen District, Tianjin. In 45 days, we turned these “pain points” into highlights: rest bleachers built onto the columns, a castle walkway weaving through them, climbing walls embedded between them, and a highropes course anchored directly to them. After seeing the finished site, the investor said, “These columns have actually become part of your design.”

01. Project Overview

02. Project Background: A Sports Playground Inside a Key Municipal Project

Tianjin Pokiddo Sports Dream Factory is located inside Yuechen Chenxing Sports Park in Beichen District. This sports park is a key municipal project of Tianjin‘s Beichen District, aiming to create a comprehensive, highend cultural and sports industrial park integrating sports, culture, and tourism.

 

The project covers 4,000㎡ and features over 50 sports and play activities, designed to meet the needs of different age groups — challenging courage and strength on the highropes course and climbing walls, jumping to new heights on trampolines, feeling speed and excitement on slides, and screaming out stress on the highaltitude swing.

 

03. Planning Phase: When an Old Factory Meets Numerous Columns

Site Analysis: Strengths and Challenges Coexist

The project site is an old factory building. The space is wellorganized, and the 8–9 meter ceiling height is wellsuited for a comprehensive sports venue. However, there was a drawback: the space contains many columns, as well as crossbeams.

 

•  Strengths: Wellorganized space, 8–9 meter ceiling height — suitable for a sports venue.

•  Challenges: Dense columns and crisscrossing beams, affecting sightlines and traffic flow.

The core question was how to minimize and mitigate the impact of the columns and beams.

Pokiddo has always adhered to the principle of “No Operation, No Design.” Before beginning the site planning, the team conducted detailed research and analysis. After clarifying the target audience and positioning of the venue with the investor, the design team worked directly onsite, discussing and cocreating the design. Considering revenue, budget, and customer experience, they defined the functional zones, established primary and secondary traffic flows, and determined equipment selection — all while focusing on solving the “many columns” challenge.

04. Design Phase: Turning Pain Points into Highlights

Core Design Concept: Making the Columns “Useful”

Faced with dense columns, the design team chose not to hide or avoid them. Instead, they made the columns part of the space — even turning them into design highlights.

Four Column Transformation Solutions:

1.  Rest Bleachers: Using the four densest rows of columns, the team built east and west rest bleachers. This saved the cost of building a secondfloor structure, and the bleachers offer excellent sightlines overlooking the entire venue.

2.  Castle Walkway: A walkway was designed using the columns, serving both play and viewing functions. Connected to the competitive castle, it became a major highlight of the venue, adding Interesting to the play traffic flow.

3.  Climbing Combination: Bouldering and artistic climbing were embedded between the columns, visually softening their impact while appearing grand and open.

4.  HighRopes Course: The platform and challenge modules of the highropes course were anchored directly to the columns, using their structure and saving the cost of independent supports.

 

Entrance Visual Design:

An important principle of indoor playground design is that the attractions at the entrance must catch customers‘ eyes. The combination of a highropes course, large slides, and climbing walls certainly meets this requirement. As soon as visitors enter, they see challengers moving through the highaltitude course, speeding down slides, and climbing upward on the walls — the entire venue’s “vibrant energy” hits them immediately.

 

Color and Style Design:

This Tianjin Pokiddo franchise store uses an atmospheric purple and bright blue as its theme colors, complemented by orange and yellow, which represent vitality:

•  Purple: Like distant stars in the night sky — dreamy and deep, evoking a vast world of imagination and exploration.

•  Blue: Like the open sky and the blue ocean — infusing the venue with freshness and energy, making the space vivid and layered.

•  Orange + Yellow: Adding a cheerful and lively atmosphere.

 

05. Construction Phase: 45 Days of Coordinated Teamwork

From the moment the Pokiddo construction team entered the site to project completion and delivery, a total of 45 days passed.

MultiTeam Coordination: During installation, the equipment installation team, engineering construction team, and environmental finishing team worked simultaneously or in staggered shifts, efficiently advancing daily task plans to ensure the project opened on schedule.

Quality Control: Pokiddo‘s engineering quality team provided fulltime onsite supervision, strictly following industry safety standards, carefully remeasuring and checking every equipment installation detail. Project delivery and acceptance underwent rigorous inspection, with Chief Experience Officer “Bao Ge” personally conducting the final check — all to ensure product quality and play safety.

 Columns Turned into Highlights: Rest bleachers, a castle walkway, a climbing combination, and a highropes course — the original “pain points” became “memorable features” of the spatial design.
